There are comparisons out there that really highlight the difference. Viola, in particular, is particularly egregious. It’s funny too, because there are times recently that Nami is no more busty than she was in Skypeia, but I imagine that varies based on how recently Oda has seen his wife

I think the simplification issue you're refereing to is only with the anime, which will gradually become better with the progration of animation, specially now a days when we get movie quality every episode.

It's a somewhat opposite example of the usual running gag where all the boys go nuts over Franky's robots while the girls remain unimpressed.
