The trope would be cliche, but I don't think it will be used. It'll make for a stronger impact if Clovis ultimately loses and has nothing to show for it but a dead Brutus.

Sure, he was loyal and trusting of his boss, but he was the boss’s right hand man, and I highly doubt he got there from being likable. I mean, he partook in the firebombing of a civilian town. He had to know what he was doing and who / what his boss was. You can’t be that ignorant / “innocent thinking” of everything for that long and that high up in the hierarchy. Probably an unpopular opinion, but I kind of hope he stays dead, vs pulling some cheap / over used trope to survive. Sorry. :/
