In the comic timeline, 1 GP is roughly equivalent to about $1000, and usually only used to make carrying large amounts around easier, and convert to smaller coins when making purchases. Which is why the Basitin food lady and Adira were both shocked to receive a gold coin from Trace, who doesn't understand just how much he's just giving away. But I suppose by the modern timeline, inflation has taken its toll. Probably doesn't even mean gold anymore, just fiat money & a holdover in terminology from the olden days.
