It would be virtually impossible for the studio to even know how many episodes it would take to do these arcs when they haven't even completed season 1.

2025-10-25 16:45:02 +0000 UTCYeah One Piece moved time slots as a show some time prior to this arc and was forced to make 48 episodes a year. The show initially pumped out 1-1.5 chapters an episode. Which is slow, compared to modern shows like JJK (3-4 chapters.) Yet, when the time slot moved AND Oda started taking breaks for health, the show started doing 0.3-0.8 chapters an episode and has essentially maintained that for years at this point. I *think* later arcs are slightly better. But that’s why One Piece is so long. I’m not 100% when the shift happened, maybe around Enies Lobby? Either way, WIT studios reported with their reanimation the show would be 236 (or 263?) episodes long from where the original show is. So cutting down 1130 something (at the time of WIT’s announcement) to 236 episodes. Which is insane, but I guess what happens when you cut filler, extra b-roll and reaction shots, and then compile 3-4 chapters an episode like modern anime.
