2025-08-31 01:38:51 +0000 UTC🙂↕️ Just saw a tweet the other day of a Shonen Jump interview of Togashi (with Kishimoto) from 2016, where he talked about intentionally adding tons of characters to his current manga arc to challenge himself as an author, naming Oda as a prime example, which in 2016 would have been right after Dressrosa had wrapped up.

2025-08-23 11:52:41 +0000 UTCI think it’s also attributed to the fact that oda when writing the story of the New World, there is a marked improvement in the inclusion of supporting characters compared to earlier arcs, where designs were often more generic, moving away from characters that serve merely as "cannon fodder" and focusing more on those with unique and meaningful roles. Gone are the days where oda had to shoe-horne certain character roles and scenes in a story arc to pad for time, usually consisting of just the 7 member crew with luffy usually being delogated to being stuck in some pecarious situation until he is needed. Now with so many moving pieces and characters in one piece especially with events and other characters interacting with the MC, it creats a far more dynamic story.
