Carson's point about intentionality in adaptations is exactly why I'm so excited for Wit's remake (beyond just fixing the pacing). While I love the One Piece manga, it obviously has its flaws, which are even further exacerbated in the anime. And considering that it has run alongside the manga since fucking Skypiea, many of the manga's subtleties – without the needed foresight – often got overlooked and thus were lost or muddied in the translation process (especially with fight sequences). Just generally, the kinda confusion that has required the so-often clarification by Patreons in your OP journey so far. I mean Oda isn't always crystal clear either, but for the first hundreds of episodes it quite often can feel like Toei was just winging it rather than making informed educated decisions, when it comes to stuff like that. On the other hand, you have Wit that currently got people working on the remake, who have the benefit of hindsight (for all these nuances) and of whom many have followed the story for years and actually *understand* it... something y'all even pointed out with the Fan-Letter episode. Hell, even production-wise they are going to the extent of building 3D models of all the East Blue islands, for their animators to reference, so they can maintain proper scale consistency – tackling Oda's biggest vice lol – while also ensuring that each location reflects a coherent cultural identity. You know, the typa things where an adaptation actually elevates the source material... and not what Toei- But then again, I also can't wait for y'all to get to the 2020s of the current anime & see the stark contrast in direction to "early" One Piece.
