Supposedly their is a Japanese Joke, that men with strong facial hair have things stick to it like velcro. I always thought that Oda just used that Joke to the extreme for Vergo.

2025-07-07 11:35:43 +0000 UTCAccording to Oda, Vergo's gag of constantly having stuff on his cheek is because he's apparently been a life-long messy eater, but I have no idea what the deal is with his weird memory issues. Oda loves his deliberate character references to other things so I've always assumed it's a reference to something Japanese-related that I just don't have enough context to understand, but it is very bizarre. There's actually a fan theory that Vergo is some kind of robot because of the way he acts is so strange.
