I so don't like the "lucky person" trope. It's always full of holes.

2025-06-10 11:36:30 +0000 UTCI, on the other hand, have a different perception of the orphanage director and this whole cult deal. To me he seems to be a hypocrite. He gets angry at a person who used Cyan for their own gain, and rigthfully so. However, he does not dissmiss the idea itself (of using her luck for others) and gets inspired by it to start a cult where he dehumanizes Cyan into a religious figure, an idol. He is now using a child with their whole innocence, naivety, he is bruising her still developing ego and getting her robbed of her future that's waiting for her potential to realize itself. He trades her for forging his own ideas into reality. He is forcing her to walk a path he has chosen for her. Basically, he is sacrifising her well-being for the bigger number of people, for the greater good. While he is thinking of other people, his thinking seems extremely rigid and is close to the extremists, cultists and such. People who have strong belief in justice can sometimes become even more monstrous then a normal person. We can polemize whether such behavior can be justified (I am always finding myself arguing with myself all over again whether "for the greater good" can be a justification). However. I, personally, cannot stand sacrificing children for whatever greater goal. If the director was really kind he wouldn't just brush over the suffering he is causing Cyan, while believing himself a just person who is doing something good. He seems either not to notice he is making her suffer or not care about it. She is truly pitiful, being surrounded by adults and their greed. The are putting her on this pedestal not giving a second thought to the incredible pain they are causing her, molding her into this special being they themselves wish to see (sic!), causing her isolation and sorrow. It's making me nauseous, like watching a lamb being led to the altar to be sacrificed. She's not a human in their eyes and that is what is truly scary to me. This story is a lot more tragic than it presents itself.
