Buildup and Payoffs Peak!

It's such a long wait, but when you taste your mom's cooking once again, all is good in the world. π This show got a slow build up, but oh my god, when you get the payoff, thats what makes it so rewarding though.

So we do see them eat it. In the next chapter, we see them chained and a member of the crowd says: '' What did those officers do? The princes were winning and then they are something that suddenly turned the battle around. '' We're being given a recounting of that fight from the crowd since it was offscreened and it implies they had the advantage until the pills kicked in.

2025-05-18 08:40:39 +0000 UTCThe princes absolutely did not put up any more of a fight in the manga. I just double-checked the chapters (631 and 632) and we see the princes beating the sea beasts, then it cuts away and the next time we see them, they're chained up saying 'they were too strong'. The manga did not show the Hody's men taking the drugs (correction: I was wrong, thanks Sanji Joestar; it did show it, but I think that actually proves my point even further, see my second response), and it didn't even show any kind of fight whatsoever, so the short stomping they got in the anime is the sequence already being padded out like you suggested it should. I'm guessing that this is all based on a random fishman spectator saying "The princes were winning and then they ate something that suddenly turned the battle around", and it sounds like whoever said that the princes put up more of a fight took the most favorable possible interpretation of that and figured that it could mean that they fought Hody's commanders evenly for a short time, but it's more likely that the spectator is just referring to the princes beating the sea beasts and then immediately getting bodied by the commanders just like they did in the anime.
