Something I noticed while rewatching the anime is that in the very first episode it looks like Shin Lady Lihua's cousin is the one that throws away the note Maomao left about the face powder being poison. Not related to anything in this episode. I'm just wondering if she read it and found out it was poison but just threw it out the window anyway...

2025-04-15 00:19:13 +0000 UTCA theory I had in between this episode and the last that I can't get out of my head. I'm anime only, so LN readers please don't spoil anything either way whether it's right or wrong. We've been suspicious of Shisui/Loulan about being near the abortion drug materials, and the obvious line of thinking is she's trying to get it to use on the other two concubines. But we learned last episode there's a rumor she's pregnant. What if its for her? What if she doesn't WANT to have the emperor's children? She was pushed into the palace by her father, and she seems to basically be dead inside when acting as a concubine. She seems to much prefer just pursuing her hobbies and hanging out with Maomao and Xiaolan. She was trying to buy all the jasmine tea from the market when she met Maomao, and happily drank it with her after. She was in the woods where the abortion flowers were. She has no problem handling the scented oils and applying them to the ladies in the bath. (Now, maybe it's a different scented oil, after all Maomao doesn't seem to raise an alarm about it, but it seems like an odd detail to include.) It would also narratively kind of connect back with Maomao more, where both are resistant to pursing higher status and would prefer to just be left alone to work on their weird hobby. Not a perfect theory, but it got stuck in my head these past few days and wanted to share it with people who also like to think about the show and theorize to get other opinions.
