2025-05-01 05:05:21 +0000 UTCYou dont have to watch the show or anything but you should check out the op of Witch Watch, its airing rn and the opening is done by this same director, Megumi Ishitani. It goes pretty crazy as well.

2025-04-21 12:34:53 +0000 UTCthe director of this is competing for best director in the anime awards. She also directed a few of the most recent episodes and all of the 3 newest openings. But since she is very young you wont see her work before you reach the 900's

2025-04-12 08:05:15 +0000 UTCAnother thing to add to Marineford, I've always loved Coby's speech when he stopped Akainu from continuing pursuit and start treating the wounded. I've always felt like that was the OGs way of showing the impact of an actual war to average marines. However, after this episode, that speech hit so much harder and I love it!

2025-04-12 07:36:47 +0000 UTCThis is just so good. I've watched tons of reaction videos on this and every time I still notice some small details that I didn't notice before. This is such a great episode.

2025-04-11 20:18:16 +0000 UTCPlease don't with these kinds of comments. Let them expererience the story un-hindered with no anticipation. One piece is the kind of journey you want to go in fresh. You all should know this. Like Chocoboshi says, these kinds of comments are not needed. Let them be the judge.

2025-04-11 18:43:18 +0000 UTCAs always, love the enthusiasm about future arcs from everyone! I just want to reiterate that talking about the pacing (good/bad) and subject matter, even if you aren't talking about explicit material, is considered a form of spoiler on this channel. We are all super excited to see this next chapter of the series with them but I have been seeing more comments whos only purpose is to point out concerns about the future pacing/production of the show. We understand your concerns but please just let Boldcast go forward with as unbiased of a perspective as possible. Let them make changes when they come to a conclusion themselves, not when enough people have made them feel like they *should* do something a different way.

2025-04-10 22:21:18 +0000 UTCFuck yes, the two brothers struggling leading to the luffy and ace moment gets me every single time, and I've consumed every reaction to this episode I could get my grubby little mitts on. It's really fun that you mention it feels as if you're connecting to the general OP audience more this way because the pleasant surprise at the subject matter and the sheer love and quality on display is pretty congruent with how the fandom experienced fan letter on it's release. Most people had no idea what it was going to be besides it being called "fan letter" and I follow some channels that based on the name and how little we got to see or know about it beforehand were originally going to skip their reaction. It was truly a revelatory moment for One Piece fans where we all came together and felt like this was made for us.

2025-04-10 19:40:32 +0000 UTCI've watched this special 6 or 7 times now and I see new details every time. Its PACKED with references and nods to the series so far. It is craaazy how much care and passion was poured into this. Don't feel bad about missing anything. There is soooo much to this special. The scene where the older brother (That's his name btw, he doesn't have any other name) starts to run away instead of saving his brother and then hears Luffy and turns around makes me tear up every time without fail. Its so impactful to me. The line about how all the little things come together to create a greater change in someone's life is exactly how I feel about One Piece. Everything in the series and all the time I've spent with it have made huge contributions to who I am as a person today and the outlook I have on life. Its an amazing feeling to not only know that I'm not alone, in terms of the fandom, but also in terms of the people working on the series now. Its clear that, like you said, they get it. They know how much this story means to people and how to show what it means to them in their production of it. Going from where you guys are in the series and hearing Franky's singing voice at the end of this makes me so sad.

2025-04-10 10:51:53 +0000 UTCBy the way some of the things you saw, for example the Franky interview, are from Cover Stories. I can't express how much those help show the 'mundane' life of the One piece citizen. Keeping up with old characters we met who knows how long ago and seeing the changes and inspirations the Strawhats brought is just that good.

2025-04-10 10:32:34 +0000 UTCThe Nami fan is basically every fan in a nutshell That one/few character that keeps you going Making theories with the wrong informations just to get the correct answer Her being depressed for half an hour cuz something she wanted didn't happen, being close enough to recognize the fakes etc could go on and on The fact that without her glasses on she wouldn't have been able to even SEE Nami! PERFECT!!! The Brook fan is kinda the fan that has a routine life and gets a bit of motivation thanks to something she enjoys. The powerscalers are well the powerscalers. Arguing about anything and anyone, even if not related to the conversation at all.😂 The Chopper enjoyer, just for how adorable he is!!! Count me in!! And the haters, that's clearly that one Marine, who don't enjoy seeing others have fun with their hobbies/ source of inspirations and feel the need to crush them down. Fan Letter, made by fans for fans ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Sanji Joestar
2025-04-10 10:31:28 +0000 UTCThe lens "color shifting" thing you're talking about is Chromatic Aberration! And it's definitely a trademark of the director Megumi Ishitani, she loves to use that (and rack focusing)

2025-04-10 10:26:46 +0000 UTCI can't express how much I love that these characters aren't named That's a genius choice. They're the everyday person so we get '' greengrocer's son '' or '' Benevolent king of the waves '' to reference them because their names don't matter. They're just fans. Of all contexts and origins. Choosing Nami to inspire her was perfect, because Nami perfectly shows the growth and hope she recovered thanks to the crew. While being a 'normal' person. The fact the only Strawhat she actually interacts with being Usopp is also amazing, because 1) She can't recognize him so she sees him as a normal average person not realizing who she's talking to 2) He too shares that relatability with her and can connect with her no problem.

2025-04-10 10:23:42 +0000 UTCFan Letter is based on a novel about individuals stories from people affected by the straw hats. (It's Called One Piece novel Straw Hat Stories) I remember reading the Zoro and Luffy section (respectively the bar guys arguing about powerscaling and the story from the perspective of the two brothers. Still don't wanna finish it lol) They had the brilliant idea of combining some of those stories to make this masterpiece and placing it at the reunion in Saboady. Absolutely perfect. Megumi Ishitani is a genius director and this masterpiece is proof of that. She knows how to combine music, visuals, key elements, transitions, atmosphere and vibes in such a unique way that just clicks (*insert puzzle piece sound there) for everybody. The 'evil' marine dude is literally the perfect example of that, just with a subtle presentation of all those elements you get a complete vibe check on him and get a visceral reaction seeing him lmao. Universally hated. I absolutely love when her direction(not just hers) is combined with peak animation. Animators like Soty give life to her stories and you can feel the bounciness of the characters, almost Luffy like.
Sanji Joestar
2025-04-10 10:21:14 +0000 UTCI love this masterpiece, I don't know how many times I've rewatched it and every time I discover new things that I didn't notice, I'm amazed by the amount of details that are there, with a world as big as One Piece imagine how many short stories you can produce, the scene of the guys at the bar is a mockery of the fans in the One Piece community who are always fighting over who is the best swordsman, literally my friends' discussions every Sunday

2025-04-10 10:01:27 +0000 UTCI feel like most people don't mention it or know but this episode is based on a novel called "strawhat stories" that was more of an anthology with stories about all the strawhats. Luffy's,Zoro's,Nami's and Chopper's are the same, bar some details. Usopp's,Sanji's and Robin's are not in fan letter at all as they happen in Syrup village, Baratie and the Revolutionary army base and matter to their story, and Franky's is kinda there with the bookstore owner but not fully and Brooks's different as well.

2025-04-10 09:49:32 +0000 UTCIts ok carson lol. I know it must feel like whiplash to see something like this in a series like OP. The kind of depth, direction and recontextualizing to create moments of realism without the shonen stereotypes is pretty shocking but this is the talent of megumi ishitani.
Artemis
2025-04-10 09:33:09 +0000 UTCThey're not making fun of them. It was like a cheeky easter egg. They just included that aspect in the episode because they are embracing all parts of the fandom. This was an episode for the FANS. FAN letter

2025-04-10 09:33:04 +0000 UTCI cried so much waching this when it came out LMAO, and I think it hit really hard for a lot of us who are caught up to the anime too even though these events happened a while ago for us. something so magical about one piece where in my experience it differs from other animes, is the further you go along on this grand adventure, the "arcs" starts feeling less and less "standalone" and it all blends together into this incredible adventure. we've come so far, and to see the people creating the show and Oda who's still going writing this, have so much passion for the story that projects like this can exist, it hits home for a lot of fans, because these characters in this special represents alot of us. its so great! Ishitani supremacy.

2025-04-10 09:06:51 +0000 UTCFan letter is just truly special. Not many things like it. the way it shows so many different characters in a 24 minute run time and makes us like and care about almost all of them is just so darn impressive. Like others have said, its directed by arguably one of the absolute best directors in the entire industry right now {she recently did the opening for witch watch, which is a great one}, so basically everything she touches is a 10/10 episode/op of the year contender. She obviously is amazing at directing and storyboarding, but she just has this ability to understand the source she is adapting in a perfect way and know exactly what needs to be done to make it even better.

2025-04-10 09:01:05 +0000 UTCI never had any particularly strong attachments to the "Return to Sabaody" arc, especially with how poorly the anime adapted it. Lazy animation, constant off-model character art, flat colors, uninspired lighting and backgrounds, and we can't forget that typical Toei pacing. It wasn't enough that I just wasn't big on the arc itself, but then it also had all that nonsense dragging it down in its anime adaptation. That's not to say the arc is unimportant, it has its purpose in the story and there's certrainly lots to like. But for me it always felt like an arc born out of necessity. Oda had to tell the events of how everyone met up again and restarted their journey, and it needed to be a little more than just that so he threw in the Imposter Strawhats plot line too. It's all fine stuff but it just never really hit me as much as I always wished it did, even after all these years. And then "Fan Letter" came along and really saved this arc for me. What the anime and even manga versions of "Return to Sabaody" lack, this one single special makes up for in damn near everything. I know that's strange logic since it's not even the same story really, but now whenever I re-watch the canon arc I'll always have this absolute masterpiece in the back of my head. It's just one of the many gifts that Megumi Ishitani has given us since working with Toei. She's hands down THE best thing to ever happen to One Piece in a long damn time. We're extremely lucky to have her as a fellow fan.

2025-04-10 08:57:28 +0000 UTCThis episode is like a religious experience for One Piece fans. It's absolutely wild that a filler episode is in the conversation for top three best episodes of One Piece ever, but that's Megumi Ishitani for you. It's crazy how much you care about these characters after a single episode.
Isaac Sato
2025-04-10 08:56:13 +0000 UTCThe guys arguing about the strongest swordsman were basically just One Piece Twitter community lol it was hillarious.

2025-04-10 08:54:55 +0000 UTCEven if you're more critical to One Piece than many reactors, your reaction to this special clearly show that you are fans and care for the series, I've been following OP for 13 years, and even if I don't feel the same excitement about it compared to the time I binged it, and had to follow it weekely, I can't think of a story I like the most. Pd. Funny you noticed the blur effect, it's kind of a signature of the episodes directed by Megumi Ishitani (co-director of this special). She quickly rose to fame in the community because she's absurdly talented, but it's way too soon to hype her and I don't want to spoil anything. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the special, it was absolutely spectacular.
John Spartan
2025-04-10 08:53:43 +0000 UTCNow I'm even more excited to see your reactions to future arcs/episodes when the animation/direction gets better (+ Megumi Ishitani, the director for Fan Letter, has also directed some episodes/OPs) because you both seemed so passionate about the show in general while watching this special. Really fun time, One Peak as always!

2025-04-10 08:44:29 +0000 UTCThe little girl is voice by Kikuchi Kokoro, she also voices Sarada from Boruto. This has been one of the best One Piece pieces of content I have ever seen man, not to belittle the other stuff, so much great stuff is still coming ahead, One Piece is just starting, but I gotta say, anything Megumi Ishitani touches is automatically peak. Love the art-style, very reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. One of my favorite details about this is that aside from the Straw Hats, every single character is unnamed, not even the girl, and yet you really feel a deep connection with many of them, no need for names, backstories, affirmations, it just clicks. I love how it makes fun of the pwoerscallers lmao. They are aware guys lol. Carson, how dare you forget Iceburg's pet mouse, it's Tyrannosaurus and he's the cutest, damn it lol.

2025-04-10 08:36:32 +0000 UTCProbably one of the best one piece directors Bar none, some of the future episodes you will see in the one piece anime main story are directed by Megumi Ishitani and her level of special effects, transitions, and direction is just unparalleled. We can't wait for you to witness some of the all star greats like Nou Shishido, Ishitani and others in the future. As OP continues to sour in popularity during these years, their contribution, elevates the series to new heights.

2025-04-10 08:24:24 +0000 UTCOne thing to note is that while the animation and direction of One Piece has certainly improved in recent arcs, I don't want you guys to get the impression that most episodes in the future will be like this one. This episode was directed by the most renowned One Piece director who came onto the anime relatively recently, and her episodes are always bangers. Obviously, I won't say which episodes since I don't wanna spoil yall, but yeah, the anime definitely still has it's off moments.

2025-04-10 08:17:01 +0000 UTCI’m glad you guys love this. And trust me, By the time you catch up to One Piece you’ll understand even better what people mean by One Piece having great world building and having that depth even more.
