The previous organizer being Suirei wouldn't make sense in my opinion since Hongniang said the court lady organizer that died was helpful, nice and helped her out a lot. Also, she never left the palace and had relations with the late emperor. Suirei doesn't really check any or all of those boxes imo. And honestly, like, isn't it so Japanese media to throw in an actual ghost despite all the very literal, scientific, and logical stuff going on? 😂

2025-03-25 23:44:25 +0000 UTCit is funny watching the show after having read the novels because as you guys discussed here (and before on other eps), physical similarity (or in some cases appearance in general) isn't really a thing until Maomao points it out (as Lindsay has probably seen by now, the LN has around one illustration per chapter, most of which are black and white, plus some full color illustrations at the end) ngl can't wait till y'all get to record the podcast on this show

2025-03-25 11:38:43 +0000 UTCnotice how a couple episodes ago Shisui mentioned that the bugs she was collecting (when she accidentally squished one into maomao's hair) made a chiming bell-like sound when their wings rubbed against each other and then in this episode, the ghost story she tells has the monk hearing a bell-like sound when the woman was talking to her husband and only finding insect wings after it was all over

I mean, MaoMao said there were only 12 people and she’s glad that they did not become the 13th story and that IS true. But what if it was also true that there WERE 13 people that night? I mean, so far when MaoMao was wandering through the gardens and fields of the palace and saw plants with abortive side effects, she run into Shisui a LOT. And it is common knowledge that the Emperor visits Loulan quite often - due to political pressure, true, but he still visits her at least three times a month. Also due to political reasons, it would be suspicious if he does not bed her (or on the other end, it would be also suspicious if Loulan said no.) Also on the topic, for a place so focused on reproduction (the sole purpose of the rear palace is providing heirs really) why the hell are so many abortifacients just lying around????

Love the ancient imperial China setting and the elequence of the women dressed in such fancy gorgious attire and accessories. So much depth and grandeur in all the backdrops. Hope the story and world building is just as good as the art style. Also love how this series follows classical court politics and even dables into ancient medicine. This is honestly one of my favorite type of genre's historical and with a mix of fantasy. Only watched 2 episodes, but im already hooked.
