Apothecary Diaries Season 2 Ep 7 UNCUT REACTION!

Comments

Omg Mad Men is my favourite show. Are you guys currently watching it or have already finished it? I would pay for those reactions lmao

No worries, you already said you are not trying to downplay it! It’s just in a lot of modern historical fiction (manga or literature) it is excused as period specific normalization ‘as in real life to be true to the times’ (which is not) or it gets rationalized in some way, and I think that is lazy research and writing (especially if it does not aid the plot and is there only for shock value.) So it was a pleasant surprise and I liked it that a story not only went a different route, but this plot point had faaaar reaching consequences as well.

right my bad on the pedo thing I wasn't trying to soften the blow, its just a really uncomfortable topic

I remember someone mentioning that in some extra content it was revealed that yes, Lakan does just gush about Maomao to anyone who will listen to him

What I'm supposed to take from this episode: The intricate and deliberate way the Mother Royal made sure her bloodline existed up until the current emperor's rule and how colorblindness works. ☝🤓 What I took from this episode: Current emperor is a based big boob lover and JinMao shipper. 🗿😂 Great analysis as always!

Also, I love that in basically all the scenes where MaoMao contemplates Jinshi and his identity, she closes her eyes and turns away before she allows herself to come to the obvious conclusion while thinkig this has nothing to do with her. This is willful ignorance. And from a show so centered around the sin of ignorance (and its consequences) this is worrying.

Nah, the pedo Emperor did not have an inclination for young women, he had an inclination specifically for children. Lishu is now 14, but she was 9 when she became a concubine. The current Empress Dowager was 10 when she gave birth to the current Emperor. These were all previously stated in the show and will be dvelved into deeper later so I will stop because of spoilers. But even in the show people (MaoMao, other concubines, ladies in waiting, the current Emperor, etc) abhorr the late Emperor’s taste in… well, children so it was not excused by anything else. In the novel they gave more context, and while it was explained how and why he turned out the way he did, what he did was not excused there either and I liked that.

Yall don’t understand how much I appreciate when you stop and analyze what your seeing. Too many reaction channels will just continue the episode while confused instead of having a discussion. Carson made a good point that the current emperor may be rubberbanding from the past emperor’s attractions, made even more likely if the current emperor has a good relationship with his mother and is able to see her hatred for his dad. Yall were really on top of it this reaction 👏👏👏👏

this is mostly already explained by the show but to go a little more in depth with it, a common form of red-green color blindness is X-linked recessive, so someone with XX chromosomes would have to get the gene from both parents, while someone with XY chromosomes will definitely inherit it if the mother expresses the trait, while all daughters of a color blind father become carriers of the gene (making concubines from related families even more effective in keeping the trait “alive”) Think what happened with the European Royal families and Hemophilia

I hadn't realised when originally I watched this episode that this might be the first time (at the school) in the anime where they give the name of the country/kingdom as being Li. From the previous time you paused on the doors in the intro, something I noted: there are two rows of Maomao, Jinshi, and the Emperor (perhaps for the two attempts), with Jinshi and Maomao "meeting" in the same room on the second row. (Also interesting is how the Emperor faces "heavenward" in both instances.)
