Of course the show didn’t give an explanation, because it was obvious to every viewer what was happening. Literally just watch any reaction to this series and they all instantly get that he’s using bloodbending on their brain to block their bending. No explanation is needed when the viewer can get the information just from watching.
And once again, this isn’t making waterbending OP, it’s making this one specific bloodline OP. You are acting like the series treated Amon as some regular Joe waterbender. He’s a result of a specific bloodline and insane talent.

Like I said, way too powerful. Amon took a lightning bolt to the chest and walked it off like it was nothing, and metalbending is nowhere near as overpowered as bloodbending. Those elements didn’t even get buffs—just more people can use them now. Bloodbending was somehow given the ability to take people’s bending away without any explanation, leading fans to create their own headcanons. Also, Amon and Tarrlok trained during the full moon to master it, but we don’t know if other waterbenders could do the same—another detail the show didn’t elaborate on.

The blood bending and taking away someone’s bending are the same thing. It’s just an ability of blood bending. The only “buff” water bending got in this series was that one dude was born with the ability to blood bend any time which he passed to his children. This wasn’t a buff for every water bender.
Especially when you compare it to the other style of bending that got buffed because of the setting of the series. Basically any fire bender can lightning bend now relatively easily and a ton of earth benders can learn to metal bend.

Nah, Waterbending now has healing, bloodbending, and can somehow take people's bending away—it's too many powerful abilities for one bending type. No non-Avatar can fight Yakone or Amon. This dude bloodbent Toph and Aang at the same time while in handcuffs, and now Amon can somehow take people's bending away? The two most powerful bending abilities in the show belonging to the same element is way too overpowered.

The original did the exact same thing with the dude that could blow shit up with his head. Sometimes certain people or bloodlines just get insane bending.

Korra made waterbending way too powerful, the elements were more balanced in original Avatar.

I hate asking because it feels a bit pushy but I just wanted to know if we're getting a one piece episode today. It's fine if we're not I was just curious.
