The soup was poisoned, not the seafood dish. And the fact Maomao is familiar with pufferfish poison means it probably isn't pufferfish, or she would have told Jinshi and Gaoshun during the investigation "Hey just so you know, this was pufferfish poison, I've had it before and recognize the effects". This was something see wasn't immediately familiar with. We see a shot of Fengming pouring a white powder into the soup which could be almost anything, but probably not pufferfish. But it could be honey sugar. (But could also be something else entirely, they don't ever confirm what the poison was in the soup, but to me it makes sense Fengming could use her contacts to get poison honey more easily than other types of poison)

I love that after Maomao talked to Lady Lishu and her food tester after the garden party about the allergies, that food tester is now staying close to Lady Lishu. She got a wakeup call by Maomao and she realizes this very young delicate girl put in a high position NEEDS HER.

Jinshi knows it's not true but the optics are bad. He could cover it up easily but he wants to let MaoMao leave if she wants to.

2025-01-22 15:48:46 +0000 UTCI was confused about the specifics of Fengmings poisoning for a long time because it seemed overly complex but think I was actually slightly overthinking it. I thought she gave the first baby poison honey, which seemed weird because honey is already poison to babies. But I think she really did just give it unpoisoned honey and it died from botulism. And this is also what happened to Lishu when she was younger. I was confused because Maomao brought up actually poisoned honey (from nectar) as well. But I think Fengming might have actually used the poisoned honey for the second poisoning. What she put in the soup. With her family being bee famers, she could source poisoned honey easier than other poisons. And the coded messages were her secret communications between her family, requesting and confirming acquisition of the honey. You could send the poisoned honey and she could burn the tablets to figure out which jar is poisoned.
