Yeah Asami was originally written to be a twist villain, and side with the equalist. I forget whether she was supposed to have always been one or if she was just meant to join her dad when the reveal happened this episode. But they ended up just liking her as a character so changed it. I know I definitely thought she was one when she was first introduced when I first watched the show.
