Regaining sight of what's important & little update
Added 2024-10-12 13:03:29 +0000 UTCCouple days spent here in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh) meeting with one of my good friends. I met him on the road just as we started this journey (you'll see it in the 1st episode).
Spent a few days here getting things sorted with the bike, after travelling 1300kms with it, it started to have a few issues with the spokes (about 9 broke on the way). Got it fixed up at a proper shop and some new tyres for more off-road conditions.
After smashing out 120kms+/day I was losing sight of why I started the trip. As soon as the bike got involved, so did my ego.
"How many more can I do today?", "I wanna prove to myself I'm strong"... all these stupid thought processes came to my mind, and I totally blitzed through areas, not bothering to stop and really look at what I was seeing.
So, I decided to take a few moments to chill here in the city, and get a book, get a stove with the intent of camping (something I don't particularly want to, but should maybe get a little used to), and sort some things out etc.
I've pretty much spent the last 3 days finishing that book. I've got 1 chapter left, and a lot more direction to why I wanted to come to Vietnam in the first place, and I hope that will show in the episodes to come.
There are a lot of wicked places I want to visit, and now I have the original reason I started back. As I progress further on the trip, I'm going to read more and learn more about the future nations we'll be crossing.
The whole point of this for me was to have an incredible adventure, learn the history of countries, meet interesting people, form new connections, inspire, and show the world, that the world is 80% full of good, friendly people.
Oh... and also raise some money for a good cause while doing so ;)
