Light is a bright man, i think people like him actually needs challenges and in a way this is his outlet where he can be his true self, with no intervention. Too bad the opportunity is evil and he fall right into it. Somehow i think his decision to kill is natural, like you said power take over people and tarnish their morals and personality...

This is such an interesting gamble for Light, he has be so careful about what he says and now he doesn't even realize if Misa is talking too much! But just as you said "I like this Light" it's kind of sad to see how without the temptation of the Death Note, he is a nice guy with a sense of Justice - it makes you think about real world people that let power take over them and tarnish their morals and personality!
