It’s one of the few horror movies that has really stuck with me, partially because the legal drama aspect of it grounds the horror elements in reality in a way that over-the-top exorcism movies never do. The horror is entirely carried by Jennifer Carpenter because the narrative demands interiority in the horror — her body movements and vocalizations and expressions have to carry the movie because they could not rely on unexplainable things like levitation or everyone seeing monstrous apparitions — everything HAD to have an alternative medical explanation for the story to hold up. Just an all around great movie imo.
