I also think maybe he's just scarred at this point (he being joe lol) from the constant "will they or won't they" and I want to be like... the good parts are right in front of you now let's just enjoy, or at the least let them be in passing if he isn't a fan lol, instead of expecting the worst at all times.

I don’t like Der as much now but I do think the on again off again of their relationship is realistic. Mer has a lot of trauma and is still trying to work thru it. Derrick is, I don’t know exactly, it’s like he feels entitled to her loving him and is just now realizing he needs to put some effort in and be more understanding if he wants to be with someone as nuanced as Meredith.
