We're overhauling the combat system for the next version with more tactile/per-click based slash attacks and completely redone and more visually interesting special moves (as demonstrated in this video). We're still going to be tweaking the dramatic pauses and some of the relevant sprites and effects, as well as adjusting the sword poses/screen position and the like.
We're also planning to, in addition the number-selected 'special attacks' like currently present, have an additional Shadow Warrior 2013/2-style way of activating special moves with less of the "dramatic pause effects" shown here in order to create a more fast-paced combat experience.
Also the 'damage numbers' will be optional (and likely off by default unless people prefer it on by default) so don't worry too much if you don't like them.
