HDoom Development Ideas
Added 2018-01-11 06:43:13 +0000 UTCSo basically, there's a lot of things I want to do with HDoom that I can't currently due, thanks to the restrictions from trying to remain compatible with Zandronum MP, (the compatibility for which is kinda broken in the current HDoom version anyways) - which works on a very, *very* outdated GZDoom codebase.
What I wanna do is basically drop Zandronum compatibility and make it fully utilize the latest GZDoom (which now has truecolor software support so that older computers can run it), which has a ton more capabilities and is way easier for us to work with. We'd have to drop Multiplayer support for now, but MP is currently kinda broken and most server hosting services for Zandronum ban HDoom hosting anyways.
However, doing this would easily allow us to do a lot more cool single-player stuff, like
- Defeat/Level Completion/etc. H-CG - opening the possibility for HDoom to utilize a lot more drawn art to compliment the H-animation spritework.
- Better focus on game balance and interesting mechanics.
- A much more capable VN system that can utilize a toolset to make custom scenarios
- The potential to interact with multiple monsters at once.
- Basically opens up the door for a lot more creative ideas and stuff that we can actually implement
Hopefully this is fine with everyone - it'll make things a lot easier on us and allow us to do a lot more. It also won't completely close the door on multiplayer support either, since I'd like to return to it at some point when better capabilities are available for it - but in the meantime I'd like to move development completely to GZDoom so that we can properly and cleanly implement stuff a lot better.

2019-09-16 20:16:37 +0000 UTCThe current version technically does in the code, but i'm not sure if it works. We're going to put it on indefinite hold (until it becomes viable again) so that we can concentrate on working with more up-to-date code and a lot more new features, though.

That goes the same for MGQ3D. I would like the blood/gore aspect of MGQ3D to be removed, although for the time being, I have the blood intensity set to the lowest possible setting.

2018-01-11 17:56:32 +0000 UTCDon't worry about that, a good few of HDoom's major features have more up-to-date equivalents present in MGQ3D's codebase. Having them both be up to date also means they can share a lot of code foundation between them.
