He is fiercely loyal to Damon even though they were fighting, they were best friends fighting. We see the same now when he sees Caroline crying. He feels like he is standing up for damon and Caroline. Tbh I loved that scene when he comes back to threaten stefan. Also I kinda realize that the only interesting parts are damon and bonnie hahahah
