Yeah I think it's a powerful way to show that life isn't always perfect or has happy endings. Also, to show the sadness of missed opportunities. If things went a little differently in some years, they probably would have been together for a lot longer, which hopefully teaches watchers to grab every opportunity to get some happiness or get rid of something that doesn't make you happy and make the most of what you have while you have it. They had their 3 years together, and for this story, that's what it is. It's tragic, yes, but this does happen in real life. Sad but true. It's still a very well done, well acted, well written show imo.
