I love clueless, and yes it was very popular when it came out. It actually changed the way we spoke in the 90's. Every girl I knew was saying "as if" and "whatever" (with the W hands.) It's actually based off of Emma, a book by Jane Austen. That's one of the reasons that josh and Cher are step siblings. In the book both the Josh and Cher characters have siblings, their siblings marry, making them somewhat related. I assume they cut out the siblings in clueless because they are unnecessary characters, instead choosing to connect Josh and Cher by their parents being briefly married 5 years ago.
