Tbh, by now the main characters are pretty much killing anyone who is a threat with ease and then literally have no remorse about it... Which side characters are allowed extended effort of help is basically up to Elena lol. It could be argued she panicked because it was Damon, but if she had waited to kill Jesse like 1 min they would've been 3 vs 1 and could have fought him off. then they could have put him in the Salvatore dungeon as they do with the ones worth keeping around :))) lol
