I personally love Frenchie's storyline, Nina represents how Frenchie has let people control him and her character acts to break him down. The only thing I would've added to make their dynamic more interesting was a scene explaining how they met or a scene prior to her appearance to emphasize her effect on Frenchie's life, maybe that's what's making you disconnected, the way she was just thrown into the storyline. It's not my favorite storyline of the season but that's only because to me there are so many good ones Also Hughie is definitely about family, it's why he sticks around when things get hard, I think he had a speech about it in the end of season 2
