Agree with everything you said, the fans were being way too hard on him during this period. Especially for a character whose entire storyline is about the other people in his life, even in this episode, all he’s thinking about is how he needs to take care of everyone else. And it’s not like he didn’t care to know about Beth’s problems, she was just so worried about him that she chose to keep it from him. His reluctance to go to therapy did take a minute and I didn’t like how he handled the session but if it didn’t take so long people would’ve said it was rushed, and tbh I couldn’t blame them. For someone that age, and with the added stigma of being a black man, this is so realistic. I would not call it selfishness like most fans were, if anything it’s cowardice. I guess my only flaw with this storyline is that we’re not seeing him spend as much time with Beth and the girls and putting his focus more on them than himself. This Rebecca storyline is kind of a big deal so it would make sense if they acknowledged that his mothers' illness is preoccupying his time, but maybe there was just not enough time in the season to flesh that out and they didn’t want to half-ass it, which would be valid considering what more we have to come.

2022-10-10 11:56:58 +0000 UTCI'm dying, the reviews you read at the end lowkey triggered me back to when this season was airing and people were dragging Randall through hell and back, omg. I was out on those streets defending the importance of this storyline and it was roooough. Maybe because Randall's complicated relationship with therapy is relatable, idk. Sure, objectively speaking, Randall isn't /likeable/ throughout some of this, but not everyone's gonna immediately jump headfrst into therapy with an open mind. Especially Black men, where the stigma around therapy is tenfold, and they're always meant to keep their shit together and never talk about their feelings. Not to mention, even as a kid, it's the way Jack helped Randall deal with his anxiety was by "running until the worried feeling in the pit of your stomach goes away". That's the only way he's ever known to deal with his issues. Beth is a GODDESS, but it does rub me the wrong way how some fans would used to say that she deserves an award for staying with a man she loves because he struggles with untreated mental illness, ngl. He's pushing through therapy now more for her than he even is for himself, but okay. (So sorry, Joe -- your review was cool and understanding for sure, those Trakt reviews just threw me back to 2020 again, lmfao. I feel like the Randall storyline is way too subtle with some of the undertones for some viewers because the lack of empathy was insane.)
