Lucia is quite an odd tradition. We celebrate it here in sweden every year on the 13th of December and usually a girl in every school is choosen to be the Lucia who walks Infront och the rest of the choir. I think the tradition is based on a woman from Italy called Lucia who got her hair put on fire and her belly sliced( hence the candles in the hair and the red sash)

I think the main issue of Simon and Wilhelm that they are worried about is how the monarchy will expect Wilhelm to marry a woman to keep the royal bloodline going. I think this is why it's such a big deal. Plus with him being a crown prince at 16 there is so much pressure on him to do what is expected of him.
