2020-05-29 05:42:15 +0000 UTCI think the point of this ep was to establish that Giles is pretty much floundering rn and struggling to hold onto his identity/purpose due to Buffy growing up and formally quitting the council, and because he doesn't have a job anymore. But I think Buffy recognising him by his eyes despite his demon visage was a nice little reminder that she def does love him and see him as a father, no matter how much she might appear to be drifting from him. Also, the reason Ethan did that to Giles, other than pure salt, was because he worships Chaos, and turning Giles into a demon caused quite a bit of that, lol.
