You're partially correct. Colleges and universities are different for us in the States. Colleges are generally smaller academic institutions that focus primarily on teaching. They offer undergraduate degrees and you can usually get a liberal arts education at a college, if that's what you're seeking. Universities are larger institutions that offer undergraduate degrees and beyond (i.e. masters, doctorate, etc.). They generally prioritize research. Like Angie said, there are universities that are comprised of several colleges and thus, you'd have to get acceptance into that college. As for the cost, that can vary exponentially. Many colleges are actually more expensive than universities as they are private institutions. There are several colleges and universities that are pushing $60k and so, education is just expensive in general though depending on scholarships and grants, etc., you can go to any school.

University is for graduate degrees (masters and doctoral). So basically university is for the rich people tbh. I believe there are a few universities that are mixtures of both, and they have like mini colleges in them. Correct me if im wrong anyone, but i think that's how it goes :)
