I love seeing a bit of Doyle's backstory. He was a teacher, and a volunteer! Then at 21 discovered he was a spiney faced demon... can see how maybe he turned to drinking and gambling as a way of coping.. even more so after his wife leaves him. Feel bad for him. I love his character.

Personally, if I was watching the show for the first time I wouldn't want to know if a particularly strong set of episodes was coming up. It takes the fun out and sets people's expectations impossibly high. Just let Joe enjoy the show naturally.
