UNCUT: Buffy the Vampire Slayer S.3.20 Reaction

I wasn't aware of the Angel spin off when it aired so I was super gutted especially since neither of them wanted to break up. I think they could've made it work but at the same time I don't know what they could've done with Angel....if he stayed he would always be in Buffy's shadow. I do agree that it wasn't his call to make. To me it's kind of silly to move on because it's the "right" thing to do...If you have true love which I believe Bangel have then you should fight for it otherwise anyone else will always be second best anyway.

Definitely, she needs him to be gone for season 4 and 5 but 6 and 7 you cant help but think about how much is happening and Angel would be a great comfort then, but it's still better that he went, plus everything that happens in 6 and 7 leads to the crazy world of the season 7+ graphic novels, which are great :}

I think Angel would have left either way, but because people connected with his character (and bc of the potential for more story, etc.) they came up with the idea of a spin-off. Angel staying after she left high school would have kept her/the show in the past, when college is meant to be about transitions and feeling like everything is new and scary. Angel would have been a comfort, something that would have kept her character from growing. I'm glad he left! The spin-off is good, too.

Also it does seem fast but that's the point, Joss likes to do these things abruptly because that's how it feels for our protagonist/us the 'what the fuck' feeling we have from it is how Buffy feels and how she would feel even if it evolved more naturally, this way we feel the same as her because we are her. It couldn't have been a natural break up because they are so passionately in love they were blind, it was an abrupt thing for Angel hearing that from the mayor and the break up abrupt for Buffy and all of it (only a little less) abrupt for us, he wants us to feel their pain. The Bangel relationship has been kinda fragmented as he didn't come back 'til the fourth episode and she had a boyfriend, the eighth Spike made his little speech about them being "friends", then the next they were in Cordys wish world and didn't know each other, then Amends is the next and Angel tries to kill himself and Buffy says she's tried to not love him and then there's episode 17 where they go on a break after the whole Faith debacle, we don't see the break but know it happened. They haven't had the best time this season but it has to happen because even though you find yourself questioning why Angel can't just come back while watching Buffy, you understand why watching Angel, it's so important you watch it, being someone who watched Angel some years after Buffy it'd be so much better together :} Joss thought Angel was too broody in this, he's the only vampire with a soul and is famous, he kinda needs his own show, also we see Angel seeing Buffy for the first time in LA, we meet Whistler the messenger to send him to her. Whistler, is a short lived but interesting idea for a character that we wonder about who sent him for ages, also we want to know why Angel came back from hell.
