Hey folks, I apologize for the radio silence but I didn't think taxes would make for particularly interesting content. With my taxes largely completed fingers crossed I'm getting back to work in the studio. To kick things off I 3D modeled the headbase for my next commission; a Dutch Angel Dragon!
The character is deceptively simple, being largely just two colours, but the devil is in the details, as the third colour is made up entirely of small and complex markings. RIP my hands. In addition to those complex markings, the head also has a huge set of antler-styled horns that are probably the most complicated horns I'll be making to date - at least shape-wise. Since the client wants them to be completely plush, I've definitely got my work cut out for me figuring out how to pattern them. To help me with that I'm going to try to 3D model the horns, as well as the ears, this way I can not only figure out the scale but I can possibly use the model to create a texture map I can turn into a workable pattern. In theory, this is not only entirely possible but its something other artists have done before. I just don't know if my meager 3D modeling skills are up to the task. Only time will tell I suppose.
For now, though it's onto a test print of this model! If all goes well I'll 3D model the mold and get this queued for printing. While it prints I intend to work on the easier parts of the suit like the paws, and tail.
I do have some plans this week to go see a concert with a friend, so wips will still be a little spotty, but I'll keep you folks updated as best as I can. That's all for now!
