It’s answered in the first season. They have to perform three songs for their setlist. It’s a requirement for the competition. It’s implied that the other schools perform three as well, but we don’t get to see it. For season 1 regionals they mentioned one of the clubs doing a Olivia Newton John/Josh Groban mashup for the competition, but we never got to see it. If we saw all the groups performances there would be no time left in an episode lol.

Also you asked what Mercedes and Tina did, they didn't get to do anything. That's why Rachel called them the unsung heroes, because they didn't really get to sing at all throughout most of the episode.

2019-12-25 22:23:55 +0000 UTCI don’t think he got rid of the schedule. He went to a Skam conference and right now it’s holiday season so it makes more sense to release whenever rather than be tied down to a schedule that gets in the way of festivities.
