Xander really is annoying in s2 and particularly this episode and the next. He's very judgmental of Buffy and self righteous when it comes to Angel. He acts like he's the voice of reason saying Angel needs to die because of Jenny but Giles sees the bigger picture that Angel is not responsible for what Angelus has done. For me it's just plain jealousy why Xander wants Angel dead so badly in this scenario. Also Xander seems to forget his actions in The Pack and he wasn't fully gone like Angel was. He remembers what he done to Buffy and everyone else and instead of apologising he pretends he doesn't remember.

2019-08-14 11:22:13 +0000 UTCJust gonna use this opportunity to rant about how annoying Xander is in this episode. I'm not exactly an Angel fan, but Angel is clearly not responsible for Angelus' actions just because a demon took over his body and murdered people with it. Xander's complete dismissal of the idea of Angel's restoration makes no sense unless you consider that what he's really against is the idea of Buffy getting her boyfriend back. If the writers wanted us to believe that Xander's hatred of Angel and lack of empathy for Buffy in this ep came from a general hatred of vampires because his friend was killed by one (Remember Jess? Yeah, neither does Xander), as some Xander-defenders suggest, then they ought to have done a FAR better job establishing that (by maybe, idk, showing his actual grieving process). And if they wanted us to believe that it's just because he cared so much about Jenny's murder (more than Giles, it would appear, since Giles was actually giving Buffy and Willow's idea the time of day, considering Angel's restoration was Jenny's last wish...), perhaps they should have established a stronger connection between him and Jenny. But, they didn't. Because Xander's hatred of Angel is mostly rooted in his obsession with Buffy. Basically all we've actually seen, over multiple episodes spanning 2 seasons, is him whine about how Buffy doesn't want him, make inappropriate jokes about wanting to see her naked or whatever else, and constantly get all weird whenever Buffy shows interest in guys who aren't him. So...his stance in this episode just reeks of petty jealousy.
