Yep, Aang died. Zuko was at a point where he was starting to accept the situation he was in. However, due to Azula showing up and providing Zuko with a reasonable option to allow him to get what he had always wanted - to return home and regain his honor - he thought he was making the right choice. Zuko never truly gave up that dream plus he doesn't seem to have a broader vision to understand that there can be multiple options to get to where he wants to be. He truly believes that is how he can regain honor and return home. What I'm basically trying to say is Zuko accepting his current situation was really just him giving up thinking he had no other option which made it easy for him to accept Azula's offer.

Not just how perfectly she executed her plans, but for ONCE a villain doesn't just patiently wait while the protagonist powers up and then destroys everyone! Also, I feel like this episode shows that in some way Azula cares about her brother. I wouldn't go as far as saying she loves him or anything, but she didn't have to have him on board with the plan and she didn't need to tell him he restored his honor.
