Yes, exactly!! Consistency and consequences are things BTVS does extremely well :)

2019-03-22 09:31:53 +0000 UTCYour thoughts on why they made Buffy seem happy after the master was killed in season 1 are accurate (they needed to wrap up the show in case it didn't get renewed), although her being happy at the time and then salty later still makes sense because, as you also said, it might have taken time for everything to sink in for her (plus at the time she would have felt euphoric from the fight). With this ep, the show was trying to demonstrate that this is serious subject matter they're dealing with (the isolation of being so young and yet prophecised to die because you're the only one who can and must face the master/evil in general, having to accept your death and then actually die only to be revived, the post-traumatic stress/trauma involved in all of the above, plus having to readjust to the idea of beating a prophecy and yet still having your life be at risk daily due to the nature of your 'calling', etc.), and so it wouldn't make sense for a 16yo kid to be having these kinds of experiences without any emotional impact or trauma to overcome afterwards. The emotional depth of this show, along with the fact that there are ripple-effects after the conclusion of certain story-arcs, is one of its greatest strengths. Glad you liked the ep! So excited for you to fully get into season 2.

2019-03-22 09:28:00 +0000 UTCYay!! Season 2, whoooo! Some of Xanderβs lines this episode have stuck with me all these years and I still chuckle π βa bitca?!β And then, βtheyβre gonna cook her dinner?! Pretend i didnt say that...β Always liked that they gave buffy consequences or like, showed her working through the trauma of fighing the master, dying, coming back to life etc. My head canon says at the end of of s1 ep12 shes happy and on an adreneline high - she is alive, she won, everyone she cares about is safe, time to party! But i imagine once that wore down and through the summer she was probably dwelling on the death, haunted by nightmares, pulling away from it as a way to cope and be strong... obviously she was forced to face her fears and realised its better to let it out. I liked that whole mini arc and that the writers tried to kind of have some consistency, if thats the right word! Looking forward to more buffy reactions!! πππ»
