This episode is much more impactful once you've seen the series through. This is probably my favorite episode of season 2, maybe not the best plot wise, but still one of the most impactful. The reason it's impactful may not be apparent until well into season 3, but still.

2019-02-06 03:45:58 +0000 UTCagreed. They are wanted, so showing they're firebenders in public would reveal their identity. And as strong as they are without firebending, it's still VERY hard to defeat a bender without bending. Especially against earth.

2019-01-31 10:22:43 +0000 UTCi remember my first video on youtube was literally a clip from this episode! my neighbor, Chris, was a few years older than me and loved avatar. I was 8 (this was in 2006, where youtube was literally brand new) and he showed he the giant mushroom clip and that's when i started watching avatar. All thanks to this episode. And that guy named Chris. I wonder what he's doing now...good times, good times. I remember everyone in school would be singing "friendly giant mushroom" and we'd all have little 'teams' of waterbenders and earthbenders etc. This episode was the funniest but also saddest in a way...idk how avatar does that, but wow. As much as I dislike Katara 90% of the time, this was an episode where i give her a lot of respect. She's very mature here without being annoying. There are only a few episodes where I can say that about her. She was hurting as well, but pulled herself together to be strong for everyone. Toph could've helped more, but sadly couldn't see. I think Sokka honestly would've taken the lead here if he didn't drink the cactus juice. I consider Sokka the leader of the group, which you'll see more later. But she's definitely second in command. People seem to think Aang is the leader, but i really don't see him as that. He's the avatar, but certainly not the leader to me.

2019-01-31 09:54:17 +0000 UTCInteresting take on the episode. Most likely the reason why Zuko and Iroh didn't take on those guys is because they are not trying to reveal they are fire benders. Clearly they are wanted and the less people who are aware of them and their whereabouts, the better.

2019-01-30 01:46:45 +0000 UTCI wasn’t complaining that he was upset, it was the actions he did that were a little annoying, I know why he’s sad
Joe
2019-01-29 23:03:15 +0000 UTCJust because he’s 12 he can still be annoying aha

2019-01-29 23:02:43 +0000 UTCPlus Appa is his Spirit Animal just like he says in the Winter Solstice part one. And it appears from the flashbacks that airbenders chose and get chosen by a air bison for life. I think the air nomads were inspired by the Mongolian nomads who were really close to their horses on that aspect. We could even say that an air nomad without his air bison is like a bird without the wings.

2019-01-29 22:26:46 +0000 UTCAppa was his best friend and the only living thing connecting him to his people. I think it's understandable why he's so upset that Appa's been taken.

2019-01-29 18:28:12 +0000 UTCAang is 12 and not only that Appa is the only thing he has left from the Air Nation so he has deeper connection then anyone.

2019-01-29 17:41:39 +0000 UTCI'd just like to point out how well written the scene in which Aang kills that vulture bee thingy is. Aang was raised by monks; he's a vegetarian, and would normally never harm any creature by choice. Him killing that thing although he already freed Momo is really illustrative of his desparation.

2019-01-29 15:51:43 +0000 UTCThis is the first time Toph experienced Aang going into the Avatar state. I get emotional whenever I watch the last scene, when Aang got so emotional that he triggered the Avatar state and Katara had to calm him down.

2019-01-29 15:29:22 +0000 UTCHow is it their you’re a fan of Anime but, haven’t seen this amazing, popular show based on anime?

2019-01-29 14:48:08 +0000 UTCI loved the way they had Katara calm down Aang. They changed it from the avatar going berserk to someone upset and confused over losing one of his best friends.
