I'm watching Doug Walker's aka channel awesome's vlog/review on each episode simultaneously to the reactions. Its funny how not many people liked this episode and this was his favourite and I understand both reasonings. Just interesting to see the opposing opinions.

The main problem with adaptations of anime is that they either too loosely or too strictly adapt the source material. Hollywood adaptations are high budget but tend to bastardise the source material I.e. DragonBall, ghost in the shell whereas Japanese produced movies stick too close and the lower budget makes everything look subpar I.e. Fullmetal alchemist. Another issue is that of trying to pack a whole series or season into a single movie. The live action adaptation has several things going for it firstly, bryke, as far I can tell, have decided that they are going to use the freedom netflix provides to explore issues in a more mature way than nickelodeon allowed but they've also made it clear that they want to stay true to the original series. Secondly, they are not making a movie, they are making a six season TV series, which basically means you can split each original season in half. Third, the special effects could be awesome. If the price of sfx follows moores law then we could see avangers level effects in the show (I saw someone else say this so it may not be accurate). Lastly, people like to think of Netflix as where anime goes to die, but Netflix doesn't have a direct hand in these adaptations. After all, the death note netflix adaptation was American, and the fma netflix adaptation was from Japan. Usually Netflix simply finances a project, sometimes they just slap their logo on an already existing project. At the end of the day the success of the series will depend on how bryke handle their new creative freedom and whether all the other moving parts, actors, costumes, set design, director, sfx fall into place.

After this every episode in Book 2 is great!

The next episodes are going to be phenomenal!! This one was one of the "boring" one's, but still a great episode especially the Avatar Kyoshi part is giving me goosebumps. Can't wait for your next reactions :)

Denny Benwo

Cant wait for the next one! Its a big improvement over This one

Dozo

Me too, it's just this wasn't as good as most episodes though.

I'm triggered.

When I said I don't like people mentioning the live-action show coming out I meant that it's not that people aren't enjoying the original show it's just to keep having this mental image of what they're going to do with the live-action adaption which doesn't even have release date yet. It's just having to talk about something isn't coming out for long time and as barely any details announced on it that bothers me. When new people watch this show for the first time I just don't like how they keep focusing on something that hasn't even come yet and keep picturing what they want the live action show to be like.

Adam is Magic

I kinda want the live action to be identical...idk I just don't want it to be messed up.

Monae Laudat

I didn't really think this was a personal thing for Aang. I think it was just to try to get rid of the anti-avatar stigma . People already hated him in book 1, even the ones that were supposed to serve him.

Omega Sirius

next episode is my favorite!

Angie

This episode is kind of odd it feels like the needed to stretch out the time until the next big episode and didn't get put together as well as they thought it would. The next episode is much better this one though and actually important.

Adam is Magic

You are not alone. This is my least favorite episode of the entire series as well, but starting from next episode, all the episodes are incredible

This is the first episode I ever saw, and it made me want to watch more, funnily enough! It thought it was a cute little show, it made me laugh, and I wanted to know more about the Avatar. Little did I know just how amazing and deep the show could actually be. I do agree now that it's probably one of the weaker episodes, but that's because I know what the show is capable of. There are really no "bad" Avatar episodes, IMO! Anyway, enjoyed your reaction!

While most fans will say that The Great Divide is their least favorite or worst episode mine will have to be this one. It is because other than the Zuko scenes, the Avatar Kyoshi backstory, and the action scenes it's a complete filler episode. I find it overly goofy for the show and it doesn't have the right level behind humor and seriousness that rest of the show does. It's not a bad episode per se just a weaker one but, still better than most shows weak episodes. However, after this episode every episode is good and all of Book 2 is an 8 out of 10 for me.
