PUBLIC RELEASE - v0.19.9 - A NEW WAR!

The latest update has been released!

This is it, the introduction of the brand new combat system! This new style should feel a lot closer to the first two acts of the game, and be a lot more streamlined (and hopefully fun)! I didn't quite manage to get EVERYTHING I wanted to in, so some of the lore from the old system is missing, but rest assured that it will reappear in v0.20.0! Also, I know that change is spooky, but I hope that everyone will keep an open mind and give the new system a chance! It's been a long time in the making, and with this I can finally start truly prioritizing story content. Yes, you'll finally be able to see your kids again soon!  I hope you enjoy! :)

NOTE:
If you are using a save file that's already in Act Three, please DO THE TUTORIAL FIGHT IN THE GARDEN OR THE WAR ROOM! This new battle system is completely different and you WILL be confused if you try to just jump right in.

CHANGELOG:

I hope you enjoy this update! Next Early Access update will be Monday, 18th of September.

Then I strongly suggest you do as the big bold text in the post says and play through the tutorial. It's a very simple system - just drag and drop each of your three dice into the ATTACK or SEDUCE, DEFEND and CLASH boxes. Your opponent will do the same. Highest number wins. That's it! :) Also, you might want to update your game. You're commenting in an old update post.

I can't understand the new battle system at all

Aergia

Both fighting styles were pretty nice. Just takes a bit of strategy and you're set for any battle. I do miss the scenes from the dungeon; can't wait to see how the dungeon will be used in the future.

Glad you like the new system! :) Unfortunately, the introduction of cross-save has hit a fairly major snag, in that 1) it doesn't work when the Ren;py sync servers are down, which is apparently most of the time, and 2) it won't transfer permanent data, which means you lose your gallery unlocks, exploration directions, preference settings and a lot more... Been trying to figure out workarounds this week, but to no avail. Until and unless PyTom can sort these issues out on Ren'py's end, there's not much I can do to introduce cross-saves at the moment, sadly :(

Super excited for more story I like both the new and old combat system. Hopefully cross save comes! I bought a Galaxy tab S8 for my games to free up my phone and would love to transfer this over! Great work as always dev!

There's a glitch in the latest build that is preventing some people from triggering the Bar event. It has been fixed for the next update - sorry for the inconvenience!

No spoilers, sorry! Consequences are important - if the damage was easily undone, then how would the MC learn? On the other hand, I'm a huge softy so ... maybe! ;)

Hello I'm having trouble finding Viola and entering Lilly's bar. For some reason I can't enter the bar after I concurred the park district so I don't know what my problem is.

I am curious though will Gwen ever walk again? 😔

Anytime 👍

Haha, well the criticisms are coming from a place of love, I know, even if they could be more happily expressed. But thank you, I appreciate the sentiment :)

Don't worry Arc like you said you cannot please everyone you are doing a great job and if anyone has anything negative to say then how about they make their own game 🤷

Unfortunately you can't please all of the people all of the time - some people love the new system, some hate it, many are indifferent. The new combat system will, however, allow me to get into creating stories and events (naughty and otherwise) significantly faster and in a significantly higher quantity from this point on, which is why it was necessary to take the time needed to properly course-correct the combat. People who liked the dungeon scenes are losing them (temporarily, at least) but in return every girl gets their own unique naughty event - so there's more naughty content now than there was before - and the beating and recruiting of the girls now only takes 1 to 2 time slots (shatter lets you skip the loyalty mission) instead of the previous 7 to 12 time slots, so the amount of clicking and time taken is significantly lower. It's a shame that you don't like the new content, but hopefully you'll come around on it in time as the system lets me properly devote my time to creating story-focused content. But, if not, there are tens of hundreds of extremely high-quality adult games out there, many of which cater to people only interested in the fap content, so I'm sure you'll be able to find any number of offerings to suit your needs :)

Already fixed for the next version, but thank you! Now stop trying to sexually confuse the Goons - they're already confused enough as it is! ;)

So not only do we get more "battle system" content, but we now have even LESS content for people who enjoy BDSM/kinky things, like the dungeon and all? And even though we worked to beat a bunch of the girls already, now we have to go back and beat them all again, spending an entire in-game day just to beat them AND "gain their loyalty", for sex scenes totally different than what we had? I'm getting more and more disappointed with this game each update- I skipped like, six of them, and this is what I come back to. It's shameful. It's like the story has taken a complete backseat to this little combat minigame, which is now not only affecting the story, but the sexual content as well. I came here to fap, not try and understand some bizarre dice-roll combat system, say 'screw it', and have to select an 'auto-win' just so I don't lose enjoyment or interest, even though it still takes like, a friggin' in-game week and a million clicks to unlock all of the girls I already had in the dungeon.

Noticed a bug the new battle tutorial. You are not supposed to be able to use Seduce, but somehow when I moved the dice around the option became available. I tried it just to see what happened and... well, an error screen appeared, surprising that you had not prepared the poor goon for this ;) After clicking through it the battle continued as if nothing happened, so nothing game breaking here but I though I mention it. Keep up the good work!

It is, unfortunately, impossible to please all of the people all of the time. Some people like the new system a lot better, some are neutral and some dislike it. It's a shame that you fall into the latter camp, but the system will not be changing again. That being said, v0.20.0 will be introducing many more methods to influence the dice in your favour (beyond the Meals, Tactics and Powers that you already have access to) so anyone who is struggling will be able to buff their rolls and upgrade their dice (temporarily and permanently) to give themselves a greater edge. I will say also that I know change is nearly always unpleasant, but it's important not to rewrite the past in order to justify emotions in the present. "The old system of choosing attack/seduce/defend/item was closer to the previous act fights" is strictly and factually inaccurate - there has never been any system in CK even remotely like this. Old fights were, in fact, much closer to the current system as they were strict stat checks (if stat_phys >= 4, for example). As for your D&D example, you realized the issue with it by the end of your sentence and ended up arguing against your own point. That system would even conceivably be worse within this context, as removing the chance for the enemy to roll low makes player low-rolls fail 100% of the time, as opposed to the current chance to draw or even win on rolling a 2, for example, and would make certain fights quite literally impossible (the highest defense stat would have to be 3. Anything higher, and anyone who hasn't upgraded their dice is incapable of victory). None of which is intended to invalidate your feelings, of course. Like or dislike the new system, everyone's opinion is valid. Hopefully, once v0.20.0 is released along with the new tools for helping to push luck in your favour, you'll come to enjoy the system more. Or maybe not! In that case, I hope it's not SO annoying as to disconnect you from the game entirely. If it is, then there's always the "Auto-win" option you can select in the War Room - skips all the dice rolls and takes you straight to victory! Either way, I appreciate the feedback :)

Some feedback on the new battle system: Opposed rolls often result in feelbad matches where the RNG just smites the player so much, so often, that all they can do is watch themselves get beat down. In the tutorial practice, I kept rolling 1, 1, 2 against 4, 2, 2 so often that I thought you had deliberately coded it to be that way. This is not like the previous "fights" in the game, where my character had to tame kunochi girls by picking the right moves in response to the moves they were telegraphing. That was a puzzle with a solution. This, as is, is so dependant upon luck as to encourage players to save scum just so they're not wasting resources going into fights there's no path beyond other than "burn time recruiting and try again." The old system of choosing attack/seduce/defend/item was closer to the previous act fights, especially when the player wasn't too confused/stunned/whatever to read their opponent. Also: knowing WHAT the opponent rolled is not any help, espcially when the answer comes back "Twice as well as you." I usually hate gamers that say "They changed it, now it sucks," But I honestly believe you took a step in the wrong direction. There's a reason why DnD (and most other RPG systems) have a SET difficulty for characters to be hit by an attack, and then just have the character attempting the attack try to roll above it. But even if you went with that system, there'd be some players just eternally cursed to never take a district because their virtual dice keep coming up 1.

The last thing the town needs right now is the 69th Nude Goon Battalion goose-stepping through the streets, their nutsacks slapping in unison ;)

Y'know, a *nude* war might attract even more attention. Oh, that's covered? Wonderful.

RD

Now we have to make awkward small talk until everyone else shows up! ... ... ... so... ... ... how about that weather, huh?

oh wow, got here early this time
