EARLY ACCESS RELEASE - v0.19.9 - A NEW WAR!

The latest update has been released!

This is it, the introduction of the brand new combat system! This new style should feel a lot closer to the first two acts of the game, and be a lot more streamlined (and hopefully fun)! I didn't quite manage to get EVERYTHING I wanted to in, so some of the lore from the old system is missing, but rest assured that it will reappear in v0.20.0! Also, I know that change is spooky, but I hope that everyone will keep an open mind and give the new system a chance! It's been a long time in the making, and with this I can finally start truly prioritizing story content. Yes, you'll finally be able to see your kids again soon!  I hope you enjoy! :)

NOTE:
If you are using a save file that's already in Act Three, please DO THE TUTORIAL FIGHT IN THE GARDEN OR THE WAR ROOM! This new battle system is completely different and you WILL be confused if you try to just jump right in.

CHANGELOG:

I hope you enjoy this update! Next Early Access update will be Monday, 18th of September.

Comments

Genuinely the worst kinds of battle systems are the ones that are left entirely up to chance.

Exidel

Suggestion for the new battle system: add the word of what each icon is.

Renagede77

You can just continue playing as normal :) The game will automatically reset your battle progress, but retain everything else.

Ah, that was an oversight on my part - sorry about that! It will be fixed for the next version (you're not missing too much right now, fortunately - it's just one scene for each).

If I've already defeated them should I open a earlier save file or will it just work

Trash Can

Not sure if I'm just missing something, but I think there's an issue getting Emma's act three story with the new battle system? It keeps telling me to find out what happened at the apartment block, but that I need to conquer that district before I explore it. This also keeps me from Lyx as well. If this has already been addressed previously, sorry about that!

Personally I have mixed feelings about the new combat system. The previous system had a good deal of strategic depth I liked to it. But the new system fits with how the rest of the game has been better. Also the loss of the sheer number of districts to conquer makes me sad. Narratively I'm a bit less sold on things. Haven't faced everyone yet but here's my thoughts. Noelle basically remains the same, on the other hand by moving her to the same rich folk district our Collage oyakodon live in means that what remains the easiest fight now is the key to figuring out what happened to them and that not having us investigate that makes no sense. Crime boss girl remains the same save for how she now stands to be the main key to finding out what happened to our apartment block girls now. The Twins are kinda the one I'm bummed the most about. Instead of being neighborhood defenders were one is captured and the other swears to save the captured one while escaping our grasp, oh and unlocking the training grounds to boot. Now their a pair of performers who care more about their show than anything and you capture both of them so no vengeance arc to come. River-shark I've yet to actually face but seems similar enough except she now guards the passage to the other side of town. Construction girl gets a bit more interesting honestly from what I've seen. Now instead of a industrial district she watches over the collage preventing any of our subjects in said collage from being harmed by the Org. Hopefully lewding our students can resume posthaste, I've missed the volleyball orgy and swim twins in act 3.

Least Devotee

Yeah, I toyed with the idea of allowing your progress to remain, but decided in the end that it was important for players to be able to experience the new system so they had a better idea of the new personalities, narratives and motivations of the Boss Girls :) As for the dice rolling, I actually did spend two days trying to get that to work! Sadly, Ren'py isn't built for that sort of thing and I would have had to use a method that would have taken up a lot of file space and still been janky, so I had to default to the current system (sad trumpet sounds).

I don't hate the new system, less grindy, but still bummed after all the work I did in the old system. Be even cooler if you had the dice roll across the screen as if you were rolling real dice (just a thought). Thou sometimes my rolls make me feel like I'm using Rin Rokuhara's D&D dice LOL.
