EARLY ACCESS RELEASE - v0.18.4!

The weekly update has been released!

This week it's another conquerable district, with a brand-new Boss Girl and skill, and the return of the "Puppet Nun" who is... somehow even weirder than before. It's probably fine, though, right? Right!? I hope you enjoy! :)

PLEASE READ!
IF YOU ARE ON WINDOWS, LINUX OR MAC IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT OVERWRITE THE OLD UPDATE WITH THE NEW ONE! JUST EXTRACT THIS UPDATE TO A BRAND NEW FOLDER AND PLAY! THE GAME WILL TRANSFER YOUR SAVE FILES FOR YOU!

KNOWN ISSUES:
Due to the necessity of changing the User Interface some screens (such as the skill, inventory, fighter and crafting screens) haven't had a UI pass and look kinda janky. All this will be fixed in the next few updates, so please bear with me until then. Thank you!

CHANGELOG:

I hope you enjoy this week's update! Next Early Access update will be Monday, 24th of April.

EARLY ACCESS RELEASE - v0.18.4!

so if you did not save the paper nun you do not have now ?

Richard Barrett

So I have conquered the first five districts, are they any more at present? Cause when I try to conquer more nothing comes up, and I can't talk to Gramps or Lyx.

Jonathan Keith

Have you reached Act 3 yet?

Luccassor

I see, is there a specific way to conquer the town?

Jonathan Keith

You don't explore - you try to conquer Old Town, same as you did with all the previous Boss Girls :P

What directions do we need to take in Old Town to get to Ophelia? I have explored and can't find it.

Jonathan Keith

Ah yes that would be a bit of a pain. Personally I'd be perfectly fine if you took the time to add that and anything else you might feel needs improvement as a pure QoL update one week. Course I'm also one of those folks who only gets every other update so I may be slightly bias here... Fair. Though even if it is scripted it'd be nice to have. Hmm, spitballing an idea here since I don't know how the coding in Ren'py works. Might be possible to make a recurring event via scripting that has a faction you've taken territory from have a chance to attack you once a week or month (have to gather their forces you see) and where they attack is randomly chosen. Hmm. Maybe something like this pseudo-code Startofweek( if(randomYN) pickfaction(faction) if(faction == exists) pickdistrict(district) attack(faction, district) ) and then our hero has to defend whichever district is being attacked sometime that week. Though again not familiar with how Ren'py's code works so don't have a clue how viable something like that would be to implement.

Yeah, I'd like to include the stats of the fighters in the little pop-up box at the bottom-left when you click on them, but I'm wary about taking the couple days it'd require to iterate and test ;P It will happen at some point, though! I'd also like to have the map be more organically mobile, with factions battling each other and shifting districts, but unfortunately I think that's beyond the scope of a Ren'py project run by a solo dev on a weekly update schedule... if I did something like that I think it'd have to be scripted events instead.

The paperdoll is the character model that appears when the character speaks - if a character doesn't have one (like Molly, for example) then there's just a blank space on the left when they talk.

Yeah, paperdoll doesn't automatically mean they have a wardrobe option (yet) - it just means that you will see the character when they speak, rather than a blank space on the left :)

how do you get to the paper doll?

Frank Fernandez

I was a little lost about that too at first

Aergia

I don't think she was added to the wardrobe. She was just made as a paperdoll

Aergia

First, thanks for the reply. Second I'd apparently completely missed that that was the point of the 'Who rules here' questions even though I went over them every time... Moving on. Having had a day to think on it the question about lvl display would probably be better worded as a plea for more information in general when picking who I'm going into combat with. Cause knowing someone's name and Support bonuses is really helpful when choosing a support. On the other hand knowing I'll be fighting a temptress and only finding out I just sent the character with non-existent seduction defense on the frontline after the fight began is a bit unpleasant. That'd become even more important the more characters we have to juggle as more districts become conquerable. Hmm. Idle thought, will we ever have to defend the districts we conquer? Finally: Yay, more skills to learn!

Just Remember: When you come to the fork in the road, take the FORK! lol

i cant see the puppet nun's paperdoll in the wardrobe. im on PC

Mimic

We really need to get rid of that. She seems to be following the emotionless girl trope of developing a new personality, and that attitude is something we really don't want floating around in there as her new personality sets.

Wild Bill

This might just be me failing to be insufficiently thorough in investigating all possibilities but did we ever get an explanation of who sent the Assassin Fey after the MC and why? (Well, confirmation really - I suppose that there's probably only one realistic candidate out of the characters introduced by that point, but there's always the possibility of someone not previously shown yet acting from the shadows, so...)

Luccassor

Everyone's level "1" (because level doesn't affect anything other than HP and WP right now) so displaying level wouldn't help much I'm afraid! Jessica tells you the general difficulty level, though. As for the "outline the types", thing - are you asking for a compendium of terms? "Here is exactly what TANK/TEMPTRESS/DUELIST" is? Because I'm not going to do that, sorry. For one, Jessica covers what you should look out for in her "Who rules here?" dialogue, for two it sterilises the experience and makes the learning less organic and for three I'd have to start doing it for EVERYTHING. Because if people over the age of eighteen don't know what to expect when they hear "tank" or "temptress" then I'm probably going to have to explain what a "fork" is to them, too ;) More lust and magic skills coming :) Glad you're enjoying the game!

It's implied that it's the old personality of Chloe resurfacing (after MC told her to "go back to her old personality" when he was testing the limits of his control) combined with her energy becoming unstable after the merge with the Assassin Fey. That being said, remember that this is all coming to the player via the MC and he's a very unreliable witness ;)

Two things I'd note to look into. One there's no way to tell what level anyone is until you're in battle, might want to add that to the prepare for battle screen. Two, what the types of opponent you might face (tank, tactician, etc.) is never outlined. While yes some of them are obvious it's not always, and some people might not be familiar with the jargon for whatever reason. Just a basic overview available in the war room or from Aunt Jessica or Chloe would be a good idea. One other thing, some new lust or magic skills would be nice instead of just some more physical ones. Thanks for all the hard work and a fun game.

Least Devotee

from how it sounds, the answer seems to be yes/both

Damien Jacobs

Is "Outbreak" the old Chloe or is it the assassin? It wasn't really made clear.

Renagede77

Thank you, thank you, thank you! (Bows down.) We're not worthy! :)
