Hello Steff. Since you like these kinds of films, I have a recommendation. It's a fairly unknown film, but it's also very exciting. It's from 1991 and is called "Shattered". Maybe you'll have fun here too :)

The glass of water moment is one of my favorite's in any film ever because it's masterful directing that forever makes you think "wait am I going crazy" Here's something to tingle your brain: both this and The Departed were directed by Martin Scorcese. Of course, he adapted them from source material, but think about the similarities between the stories, specifically, the kind of man one chooses to die as.

He did killed his wife, and he made up a fantasy to escape from his trauma. At the end he did remember everything, but he pretended to „reset-to-delusional“, because he wants to do the surgery and end his pain.

I agree, that’s why when Andrew said “What’s worse, to live as a monster or die a good man?”, the Doctor (Chuck) was like confused and called his name because he knows that he’s not confused anymore and he’s “acting” so he can go with the treatment, because Andrew knew he’s a monster and even though he’s not confused anymore, what’s done is done and doesn’t want to carry on anymore. But I guess that’s just a theory and what makes this movie so good, we’ll never be 100% sure

Bro thinks there’s another twist 😂😂

on the ending, i felt it as the roleplay experiment worked, and he really did understand he was Laeddis. he knows he's hurt people, harmed patients and orderlies and doctors for nothing, just a game he was playing; he's forced to revisit the pain and guilt of losing his children and killing his wife, only to be told that this breakthrough has happened before--probably leaving him to feel fated to relive his trauma over and over. i think having to live alone in the world without a chance to heal was a scary thought, and he willingly walked to the lobotomy to break the cycle psychological thrillers are some of my favorites too! since you asked for more in the same vein: The Machinist, Identity, Se7en--hundred others but don't want to overwhelm someone that gets a million recommendations already. thanks for the watchalong
