I think episode is a standout because we see yet another side of Jaime, we get some White Walker lore, and we get some reveals about who murdered Joffrey.
A couple notes:
- Remember to not confuse White Walkers with Wights. The Wights are the "zombies" that are awoken from the dead, while this is the first time we see a White Walker being created. They definitely have some unique magic. Craster was likely their source of stock for White Walkers, while the dead are their stock for Wights.
- You probably recognize Locke, who is now up at the wall with Jon Snow, as the one who cut off Jaime's hand. He was sent there by Ramsay Snow & Roose Bolton to root out Jon Snow. He appears to be biding his time currently, but did volunteer to go with Jon to Craster's keep.
- It's great to see the machinations of Littlefinger. Who would suspect him while he was away securing an alliance in The Veil? Who would suspect the Tyrells, who have gone through painstaking diplomacy to marry Margaery to Joffrey? It was a brilliant maneuver using Sansa as well because Littlefinger loved Cat and wanted to protect Sansa (even if she previously wanted to stay). This was also a good way to separate Sansa from Tyrion & King's Landing. Littlefinger likely had a bit of a bone to pick with Cersei as well when she so casually threatened to kill him and then changed her mind in a flight of fancy when she was proving her point about "power is power".
