Yes very critical scene, and dialogue for the whole series. Key to remember.

Yeah we definitely had an info dump from the King/Ned scene. If it helps, here is what we mostly learned: - They got a note that Daenerys Targaryen married Khal Drogo - Robert wants to kill Daenerys, Ned doesn't want to. - Robert and Ned's uprising was against Daenerys's father, so Robert is worried that people do in fact secretly hope the Targaryen dynasty comes back. If he has her killed, that would be less worry to himself being usurped. - Daenerys's father seems to have killed some of Ned's family, specifics weren't mentioned. Robert says "what they did to your family" - Robert also says that someone named Rhaegar killed Ned's sister during the rebellion. Robert was set to marry Ned's sister, but since she died, he ended up with Cersei Lannister. Since he says this during the rage about the Targaryens, we can assume Rhaegar was also a Targaryen. Other tidbits that we heard in the Tyrion Lannister & Jon Snow conversation: - Jaime, Cersei, and Tyrion's father was Hand of the King for 20 years to Daenerys's father. -Jaime Lannister is who actually killed Daenerys's father during Robert's Rebellion.

I dont know if anyone has mentioned this yet, the opening credits slightly change with every episode. The cities shown will be the main cities we visit in the episode.

Nice that you are feeling the second episode, Stef! Every episode in the first season especially, is trying to explain back story for every character, so you will know there motives going forward!

It’s really cool you are learning to play chess. I started playing like 8 months ago and play for an hour a day. It’s really good at keeping the mind sharp and it’s just fun. You should watch that scene where King Robert and Ned are talking. There is a lot of information there and some of it will be flushed out later so I wouldn’t worry about fully understanding everything at once. This show has a way of slowly revealing more and more information so the watcher can piece things together.

The trick is explaining an episode without hinting at things to come. If a first-time viewer expresses hate or love for a character I just allow them to find out for themselves that some character arcs may change our opinions (or not) over the course of the seasons.

Wow. That was a good episode. Cliff hanger ending. There is a lot thrown at the viewer like you said but I'm starting to really like this show and can feel myself starting to get invested in certain characters.

Got my dad to watch this series for the first time. I definitely had to explain lots of stuff during season one, with the amount of detail and characters there are, but now hes on season 4 and loving it. I still contend that season one is the best, its just tough to fully appreciate at first because you're busy trying to understand everything. Hope you enjoy enough to continue the journey!
