EMERGENCY PATREON POLL UPDATE

Hey Everyone Havits Here,

unfortunately I found out from Stef that she HAS seen Dune.  I'm sorry for the confusion, I could've sworn she said she hadn't seen it on a previous stream. If everyone can go ahead and swap out their vote, we can adjust accordingly.

Comments

I also didn’t love the original Dune film, but I certainly can’t speak for her that way. Regardless, the poll has put up some good films. Some good stuff to react to. Going to be fun and interesting to see her reactions. A couple of my all-time favorites made it onto the last poll.

Nathan Towne

The new dune isn't worth watching imo the first one was bad enough

Scorpius

Catch me if you can with Tom Hanks Leonardo DiCaprio excellent movie and of course the last samurai Tom Cruise up there too both really good top notch half top shelf movies

Scorpius

Dune is such a slow moving movie, it's confusing to most and sometimes unbearable to watch. I think it would bore an intellect like Stef anyway and there's nothing for her empathy too pick a part. imo. What I'm trying to say is Dune is a substandard movie. Please don't tell Sting I said so. Yeah it would make the holidays next year awkward. Hahahaha.

Scorpius

The new one doesn't have the internal dialogue that the 1984 version does, but it's really good. I would say for me, the music and the visual scale of the worlds really were outstanding.

I have never read the book. I will admit that the 1984 movie wasn’t my absolute favorite movie, but I haven’t seen it in a long time. I have only seen it once, around 2005, or so and I was only about twelve-thirteen at the time, so it has been awhile. I didn’t really like it though very much at the time.

Nathan Towne

Most importantly the 1984 version has Sting in it. LOL

I have seen both "Dune" films, 1984 and 2021 version. Some are critical of David Lynch's early film but I like it. I think when you read the novel (I have) it's clear that Lynch had to make a lot of tough decisions and compromises in the way of budget, time constraints, and technical limitations. yet I think it holds up quite well. As for the later "Dune", I'll just say that it doesn't appear to have suffered ANY technical compromises. The fact that the director was able to spread the epic story across several films is a real blessing. As for the ill-fated Jodorowsky's "Dune" project, it may have looked promising but how many other film projects have languished on storyboards, revised screenplays, and studio promises over the decades? I think it's optimistic when fans of Jodorowsky make the claim that his version would have been the best when it didn't proceed much beyond the conceptual.

ButtercupsTrueLove

I didn’t realize that you had only seen the original, as well. Appreciate it.

Nathan Towne

It's not, just a suggestion because I like the 1984 movie. Edit: I have not seen the new one either, I really wanted to watch both parts together in March, but now I hear there maybe a third part as well. But, if Stef has seen the new one, watching the old one would be cool as it is a cult classic and it has some notable actors in it.

Richard Higgs

How is the new one relative to the original? I have personally only seen the one from 1984.

Nathan Towne

if she has already seen the new Dune, she should watch the 1984 Dune instead.

Richard Higgs

But maybe I still want dune

aarswft

That would still leave her with Ex Machina, Catch Me If You Can and The Last Samurai as the three? I haven’t seen the new Dune. I probably should at some point. I have seen the original from the ‘80’s though.

Nathan Towne

Put the movie Real Steel
