Next Patreon Pick Suggestions

Hey everyone, it's that time again. What do you want Stef to watch next on Patreon Picks. I know there are a lot of different movies we want in all sorts of genres. However Stef is still getting her routine figured out in LA while setting up all her music goals too. So we will still have to go based on popular demand in the comment section. Eventually I'd like to seperate the picks into genres, I'm working on setting up the best method for that. Drop your personal favorite movies Stef hasn't watched yet, the movies with the highest demand will get put up in a poll in 24 hours.

Yeah, Pan’s Labyrinth, for sure! Incredible movie. Would be really cool to see a reaction from her to it. The Sixth Sense is also good. Apocalypto is amazingly well made. I enjoyed The Prestige, as well.

2024-01-07 16:53:17 +0000 UTCI second Blood Diamond. I think that she will probably really like that movie. Definitely a movie which she should see and react to.

2024-01-07 16:51:46 +0000 UTC**Monster (2003)** My top recommendation is probably Monster. I don’t think that I have ever seen a reaction to it and yet it is widely considered one of the greatest films ever made. Of course, Charlize Theron’s performance is just incredible, but it is a movie and a story which will give Stef a lot to think about, as well and one which, while not easy subject matter, is important. I will list some pretty good ones from all genres here: -The Last King of Scotland -Pan’s Labyrinth (Been recommended by others, as well. A definite must-see) -Shooting Dogs (Beyond the Gates) -Hotel Rwanda -The Killing Fields -Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (Has been recommended by others, as well. One of my personal favorite films. Absolutely brilliant) -Lion -Rabbit-Proof Fence -Duma -Wind (1992) -Animal Kingdom (2010) -Starred Up -Blood Diamond (Has been recommended by others, as well-good recommendation. Would definitely be a really good choice). -Rob Roy -The New World (despite some flaws, imo) -The Last of the Mohicans -Days of Heaven -Schindlers List -The Pianist -Valkyrie -Downfall -Dunkirk (pretty solid) -In Darkness -Defiance -Chernobyl (mini-series) -Atonement -The Last Emperor -Mongol (2007-Not necessarily especially accurate historically, but a very good script and brilliantly well made) -Empire of the Sun -Children of a Lesser God -Notes on a Scandal -Nobody Knows (2004) -Blue Jasmine -Brooklyn -Kramer vs. Kramer -Apocalypse Now -We Were Soldiers -Letters from Iwo Jima/Flags of Our Fathers -The Great Raid (2005) -K-19: The Widowmaker -The Piano -Hidalgo (again, problematic in some ways, but I think that it is a really solid movie, nonetheless) -Kidnapped (1995) -Silence of the Lambs -Patton -Das Boot -Cries and Whispers -Out of the Blue -United 93 -World Trade Center -Ali -Alexander (Final Cut-A grand epic with some flaws, but worth seeing). -Apollo 13 -The Right Stuff -Black Swan -Badlands -Requiem for a Dream -The Place Beyond The Pines -Spotlight -Nashville -Moulin Rouge (an excellent musical) -Little Miss Sunshine -Blade Runner (Final Cut) -Gettysburg (will always love it despite its flaws). -Glory (pretty solid, again, despite flaws) -The Conspirator (pretty solid) -The Final Days of Sophie Scholl -Lust, Caution -The Kings Choice -Days of Glory -Dresden (2006) -Stalingrad (1993) -Memphis Belle -The Crossing (2000) -The Godfather -The Godfather Part II -Once Upon A Time in America (the full version) -There Will Be Blood -Fences -Contagion (Really good movie, even though one thing about it bothers me a bit) -Boys Don’t Cry -Behind Enemy Lines -Black Hawk Down -Ex Machina -The Island (2005) -28 Days/Weeks Later -In Bruges (The Guard is entertaining, as well) -Lolita -Perfect Sisters -Ordinary People -Chariots of Fire -Wild (2014) -Boy A -Radio Flyer -Millions -The Dead -Rose Red -Oblivion -The Usual Suspects -The Curious Case of Benjamin Button -The Wrestler -The Kingdom -The Grudge (horror/thriller-quite a bit better than The Ring, imo) -The Impossible -Black Book (not easy to watch, but very good) -Reservoir Dogs -Once Upon A Time in Hollywood (fairly faithful telling with an alternative ending to what really happened) -Dances With Wolves -A Trip to Bountiful -Catch Me If You Can -The Aviator -Poseidon (2006) -Witness (1985) -One Life (a really well-made film on Nicholas Winton and the Kinder-transport) -Dara of Jasenovac I really recommend a movie called Napoleon from 1995 about a dog who goes on a great adventure. Very touching and very entertaining movie. In this category, I really like Benji: The Hunted and the animated movies Balto and Bolt, as well. Obviously, Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Firefly and the film Serenity which followed it are great! Dinotopia (2002) is another good mini-series. As is Hornblower (adapted from the Horatio Hornblower novels). Uprising (2001), on the Warsaw Ghetto uprising has a lot of really great stuff in it too. I think that you would also be drawn in by Crash (2005), which won Best Picture at the time as the best movie of the year, but is/has become a very controversial film amongst people. Definitely worth seeing though and you can judge and determine for yourself. Another quite controversial film which people should see nonetheless is Munich (2005). Kingdom of Heaven (2005) has been referenced, as well. The movie looks incredible and is brilliantly directed, but the script is weak and not historically accurate at all. Also, while all movies have some message(s) in them, Kingdom of Heaven slams you over the head with its contemporary political message. If you do watch it, you need to see the full Extended Version, as the studio meddled severely with the Theatrical Release to bring the run-time down from just over three hours to about two hours and twenty minutes and the story was made almost incomprehensible by doing so. The story is at least coherent in the Extended Version and is really the only viable way to watch the movie. I really can’t emphasize this enough. The director, Ridley Scott, was not happy with the way that the Theatrical Cut came out and for very good reason. The Extended Version is really the only way to watch the movie. For something fun, if she has never seen National Treasure, I bet that she would be very entertained by it. I always liked the movie Mr. Deeds when I was a kid, as well. S.W.A.T. (2003) is a movie which I bet she would like. Very entertaining movie. For another horror film, the Dawn of the Dead remake (2004) is good. Something which I think that she could handle and is quite good is the Swedish film, Let the Right One In and the English language remake called Let Me In, about a harshly bullied young boy who develops a relationship with a girl who is a vampire. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and it’s two sequels (the Swedish films) are all pretty good, even though some of the content is upsetting. The English language adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is also pretty good, albeit, as stated, with some difficult content contained in it. Not bad movies in the thriller vein, though. My father is particularly fond of them. For older films (pre-1970). Wings is a must-watch. Cavalcade is a great movie. You Can’t Take it With You is very funny. I would definitely recommend Drums Along the Mohawk. Rebecca is good. How Green Was My Valley is outstanding. Mrs. Miniver and Casablanca are iconic, of course. I like Shadow of a Doubt a lot. Gaslight is really good. The Third Man is great. You would probably like both All About Eve and Sunset Boulevard. From Here to Eternity is very good. On the Waterfront is good and very touching. Twelve Angry Men is extremely famous. Bridge on the River Kwai is phenomenal. Both The Cruel Sea (1953) and The Enemy Below (1957) are excellent. Anatomy of a Murder is outstanding. You will definitely have to take the time at some point to see Ben-Hur (1959). Spartacus is a famous classic (1960). The Apartment is great and also very funny. You have to see West Side Story and Lawrence of Arabia if you haven’t seen them. The Great Escape is a really good classic, as well. The Fall of the Roman Empire (1964) is entertaining and served as some of the inspiration for Gladiator. The Blue Max has some truly incredible scenes and is definitely worth seeing. I love The Sand Pebbles and would highly recommend it. Z (1969) will give you a lot to chew on and can go in that kind of controversial group in a number of ways. For other movies which are just good fun, I liked Johnny Tremain (1957) a lot as a kid. A couple others would be The Three Musketeers (1993) and Squanto (1994). Those are some suggestions.
