Good evening dear patrons, here are two shots of Ashley from our most recent shoot (together with insta safe versions) that I wanted to share with you, as they’re the first (of Ashley) using my new Elinchrom Portalite, which is capable of up to 400W flash power - double diffused by a soft box. There’s a second unit in the kit but it remained firmly packed - I used that one in Frankfurt, for some of the shots with Dina and Vanessa.
I also used the Hobolite that provides continuous light at 100W, which makes it possible to record BTS videos.
So I could have the blinds closed and my camera settings at ISO100 and f8.0 with shutter speed 1/200sec. Those are settings for bright sunlight on a sunny day.
But what I’m most proud of is how I all but eliminated the shadows, which was, frankly, by trial and error in terms of positioning the two lights and adjusting the power of the flash unit. And of course having a fully cooperating model who was trying to help with her own suggestions.
So this is glam at its best and Ashley didn’t mind that at all.
But this was the only set we did using the Elinchrom; for all the other sets we used natural light in other rooms and amplified it, where necessary, with the Hobolite, which is easy to move around. I can already say that Ashley loved the results with the Hobolite, as she’s seen me struggle to get enough light from ring lights on dark days.
The bottom line is that I can now shoot even at night time and the winter darkness in little Britain will no longer impact on my model photography.
Ps: you I’ll see the two lights working together in some of my future behind the scenes videos.
