The Canon EOS R6 Mark II is my new pride and joy! I have now had it for three weeks but I wanted to make sure I’d keep it before posting anything about it. You never know with new cameras. That’s partly why I avoid buying from grey market sellers: I bought this one from the official Canon Store and as such it comes with a 30-day free return warranty from Canon, as well as a two year warranty. It was also on offer, so it was a good time to buy, check it out by clicking the link below:
This is my first mirrorless camera, and I am sticking with Canon as I can use all my old prime lenses, with the use of an RF adaptor, which set me back an additional £130. So far, however, I have only used it with the lens that was in the camera kit - the RF 24-105mm F4L IS USM zoom lens.
I did a lot of homework before opting for this kit, on both the camera body and the lens. Both had raving reviews and I am pleased to say that so far I can see why, even though I can’t say I’ve used all the functions that are available.
So far I used it in three model shoots: Tania Aresti, Kitty Marie and Roseanne.
In my very first shoot I had my “old” Canon EOS 6D Mark II on standby. However, that wasn’t needed, the new one was plain sailing and because if the excellent zoom lens, with low f-stop through its range, I didn’t even need to change lens, which is what I normally do.
I must say that I was also tempted by the Canon EOS R5 mirrorless, which has a higher spec in many respects, especially its 45 megapixel resolution versus 24.2 megapixels of the R6, but what convinced me, besides the £1000 less price tag, is the capability of the R6 Mark II to perform better in low light conditions, which I suspect is due to the fact that it is a later model than the R5.
Importantly also, there’s a Mark II version of the R5 that should be released later this year, so no point in spending more for a model that will be out of date in the near future.
